Hello list,
I wanted to let you know that I have launched a new website for Oakland
Cemetery in Atlanta. The purpose of the site is to provide a searchable
index to grave photographs and a transcription of records for all known
burials in the cemetery from its founding in 1850 to today.
Currently, the website includes a database of photographs for more than
2,000 marked graves in the Confederate section of the cemetery. In this
section, there are men from all the Southern states who died in hospitals in
and around Atlanta from 1862 to 1864. Just click on the "Civil War Burials"
link.
There are two men in my database identified as being members of the 2nd
Georgia Cavalry:
Robert Shaw, Co K, 2 GA Cav, CSA, Section E, Row 2, Grave 6
(http://www.oaklandcemeteryburials.com/civilwar/soldier/1561/display.html)
William E Harper, Co A, 2 GA Cav, CSA, Section E, Row 8, Grave 16
(http://www.oaklandcemeteryburials.com/civilwar/soldier/1786/display.html)
Over time, the site contents will expand to over 40,000 photographs and more
than 70,000 burial records.
