you can find -
No Confederate soldiers named "Willis Hardy"
62 Confederate soldiers named "W Hardy" or W with some other initial Hardy
18 "W Hardy's" in cavalry regiments (likely as Forrest was a cavalry general)
1 "W C Hardy," a sergeant in Company E of Duckworth's 7th Tennessee Cavalry
regiment

As this site explains, this regiment did serve under Forrest for some
period of time -

Company E men were primarily from Hardeman County.

If this info matches your man, the Nat Park Service site explains how to
get copies of his records. You may be able to find copies of the CW
records microfilms in larger historical/genealogical libraries where you
can get the records without waiting for the Nat Archives.
