Kay, thank you. part of my problem is that I don't know for sure if he was
confederate or union. I was hoping someone could tell by his uniform in the
picture I have of him. However, so far, I haven't found anyone that can tell
because they say the picture is so old and worn.
He lived in Bradley County,Tn. in 1860 but in 1870 his wife and children
are on the Rhea county, Tn. census without him. His wife's name was Martha.
I am not sure that Richard was his first name but that is how he is listed
on the 1860 census. I think maybe it was a middle name and that is why I am
having trouble finding him.
I am certain he was killed right after the war. The story goes that my
greatgrandmother, Eliza Jane Thompson Perry, saw him killed by the
bushwhackers. She would have been probably from age 5 to 8 because she was
born in 1858.
Another one of my problems is that I do not know Martha's maiden name.
My family has looked for years and some have put info. on the internet
that they could not support and so far, we have nothing concrete other than
we know the last name of Thompson, Martha's first name, that they did live
in Bradley Co. ,Tn. had the 3 girls and that he died before 1870.
Thanks, I am going to start searching the sites you have sent.
Wanda
I just can't seem to get a break.
