There is a strong possibility that this Thomas Abell was part Cherokee Indian and may have been born out of wedlock or was orphaned. The 1850 census of Thomas (b. Virginia) and Elizabeth Wade (b. Kentucky) lists children: Indy, Mary, Sarah, William, Cotia, Martha and Cassinda. Mary E. Wade age 18 married Enoch Abell age 57 in Dubois County. Mary Wade is rumored to be a Cherokee Indian, so that would make all those Wade children Cherokee.
