Hi Rodi & All:

I don't know if our Cheyne lines are the same or not. To outline mine:

Alexander Cheyne (c1650 - aft 1717?) m Jean Urquhart (c1655- , probably in
Fyvie parish Aberdeenshire, by 1679. The family is believed to have lived
in Fyvie until 1694, when they moved to Methlick. By 1701 the family
resided in Auchredy. In 1705 they moved to Monquitter.

children:
(1) Elizabeth Cheyne
(2) Elspet Cheyne
(3) Barbara Cheyne christened May 1685 in Woodhead, Fyvie Parish
Aberdeenshire.
(4) Paterick Cheyne christened 24 Feb 1689, Woodhead, Fetterletter, Fyvie.
(5) John Cheyne christened 29 Jul 1691, Woodhead, Fetterletter, Fyvie
parish
(6) George Cheyne christened 29 Apr 1694,Fyvie Parish
(7) James Cheyne christened 5 Jan 1696, Crerreniland, Fyvie
(8) Jean Cheyne christened 27 Feb 1697in Balquhindachy, Methlick

So where did most of the males go? Did one go to Rathen? I dunno.

My ancestor, the John (5, above) may have married Jean Shepherd after the
birth of their son James in Gurgedyke, Methlick, 1715. Their next five
children were born in New Deer parish.

I am descended from John's son Patrick Cheyne who was christened in New Deer
parish, Jan 21 1728 and married Jean Dyrnock on July 19 1764, in Siggat,
Auchterness parish. One of their children was christened in Fyvie parish
church, and the rest in Siggat.

One of these Auchterness born children was William Cheyne (christened Sept 2
1765) whose daughter Jane married Alexander Irvine from New Deer, and came
to the Restigouche river area of Quebec in 1826.

Bye for now

Roy
