Hello to this list

I'm visiting from Nottsgen, in the hope that someone here connects
with one or more of the surnames which I mention.

I have a 3X great grandfather, Charles McQueen, reportedly born 1775 or 1778
at Marnoch, Banff. WO records indicate that he served with the
2nd Battalion, 72nd Highland Regt of Foot from 1808-1816. He
attested Montrose and finished his service career in Londonderry,
IRL. Charles served in Scotland, England and Ireland.

His birth/baptism has never been located. He may have married in
Scotland before enlistment (see below). He definitely married in
Mansfield, Notts, in 1812, with a son born there in 1813. Charles
disappears after 1816, did not return to Mansfield, and as he
received no pension, there are no further WO records that can be
used to trace his movements.

Charles might have married Ann PORTER at New Deer, ABN 17
March, 1793, in which case there were children, Christian (1799)
and Charles (1802), both born in the Braes of Crombie, Marnoch,
Banff. This last Charles is thought to have married Ann
McKENZIE, at Fordyce on 6 Dec 1823, with a family of at least 9
children, all born at Fordyce.

Other familes subsequently connected to this family include
BRANDER, STEPHEN, MURRAY, HOWIE, DAVIDSON AND
MacRAE AND OTHERS, spread over much of NE Scotland.

I most certainly wish to determine whether the Charles born at
Marnoch in the 1770s (according to WO records) is the same
Charles that married at New Deer, ABN in 1793. One crucial issue
is the accuracy of information provided by Charles when he
enlisted. He bent the truth about this age, and may not have been
accurate about his place of birth.
