Hi John
Success at last. I've found a Milne/Watt connection! I tried to e-mail
you directly but it was bounced back.
My g.g.grandfather is Alexander Milne c. 31.12.1821
Gartly , son of James Milne and Margaret Watt.
Alexander married Jane Smith and had 12 children. I'm
descended from their son Robert Milne b. 1866 in Rhynie,Abd.
During my research I thought that like you James Milne and Margaret Watt
went to Rothes because I couldn't find any other children born after Alexander/
. I thought nine years was a large gap between the children!
James Milne married Margaret Watt the daughter of William Watt and Mary
McGregor on 20th May 1821 in Gartly, Aberdeenshire.
In the 1871 census for Glack, Rhynie living with
Alexander Milne and family is Agnes Milne - mother in
law - widow - 77 - stocking knitter - born Rhynie.
Jane Smith was illegitimate. Her mother was Mary
Allanach and her father was a William Smith so Agnes
couldn't have been her mother. I think she is
Alexander's step mother Agnes Shearer who married
James Milne on December 1825 in Glack. I have been
unable to find Margaret Watts death but I suspect she
may have died not long after Alexander was born and
James remarried. I'd be interested in your thoughts on
the matter as I've been unable to find James' death either.
Please get in touch (with your new e mail address)
I haven't got much information on the Watts so I look forward to hearing
from you.
Jackie Carlton.
