>From "History of the Brethren Movement" by Coad I see that the Brethren were a large church group with Glasgow being a chief city. During the 1840's-50's it took off in Lanarkshire. By 1898 10,000 orphans had been cared for in 62 years in the UK, 114,000 day schools had operated. In the 1800's there were 15,000 churches.
The Movement came to Tasmania and Victoria, my Grandparents were members of the "Open" or "Hopkins" Brethren. These churches have dwindled in numbers and some have closed. My QUESTIONS ---
1.Are there still "Gospel Hall's" in Aberdeen? Or "Central Hall?"
2.. Would marriage records survive in Archives? Marriages were performed by designated members, there were no ordained clergy as such.
3. Were do we look when our family are not in the IGI or OPR?
