Hope you have a marvellous trip. I visited relies last Feb for the purpose
of research and had a great time.
Definitely get a car. Although the British transport system is very good.
Like ALL transport systems, you seem to wait around forever before actually
getting on the bus.
DON'T try driving in London, it's not worth the hassle. The tube is your
best bet. Your B&B or hotel host will be able to direct you to where you
want to go. And tube maps are available everywhere. You will more than
likely find that if you book and pay for the car with your ticket, or at
least from this end, it will be cheaper than doing it from the other end.
But if you can't then there are heaps of car hire places at Heathrow. Just
ask for directions from the information desk. They will more than likely
direct you to a bus which takes you to where they keep all the cars. JUST
REMEMBER TO ASK QUESTIONS AND KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS. Then you won't get
lost too many times.
As for B&Bs. I can give you the addresses of three which I stayed at. ( I
had rellies to stay with most of the time) You can pick up maps when you
get to Heathrow and any other towns you visit.

Mrs Evelyn Snidtker
Coulliehare Farm
Ellon, Aberdeenshire
AB41 7PH
(tel)0165 842355

This, actually is where my ggggrandparents lived. Not in the actual
farmhouse but a croft, just over the hill which was owned by Coulliehare.

Bill & Dale Main
St. Ola Guest House
421 Great Western Road
Aberdeen AB10 6NJ
(tel)01224 317186
and finally -

6 Springbank Terrace
Aberdeen

Sorry I have misplaced the other info on this place and haven't the time to
look for it. I shouldn't have because it is also one of my ancestor's
homes. It is quite a strange feeling to step inside a house which you know
your g-grandmother lived in.
There are a heap of B&B in this street.

PS. Don't forget to get suitcases with wheels and handles which dissapear
into the case. They are much easier to drag around. You might think that
you need heaps of clothes. You don't. And if you do find that you really
need something, there are always the OP shops. You will mostly live in
jeans and sneakers - especially if you are going to do a lot of travelling
around. If you are the sort of person to wear jeans of course. Have a
lovely trip. Hope this info is useful.
Regards AJ

>Hi everyone - I hope you all had a great xmas and a safe and happy new
year.
>
>Firstly I must apologise to anyone that has emailed me with requests for
Victoria Australia look ups - but my so called new computer died and I have
been off line for the last 3 to 4 weeks, so if anyone would like me to do a
look up re email me and I will see what I can do.
>
>Due to the overload on the 1901 census site - I figured now was the correct
time for my big requests. I have a hundred and one questions and don't quite
know where to begin - so please bear with me.
>
>Doug and I have finally booked our holiday to visit you fine people in
June - we are going to other places but we have 30 days (on our own - no
accommodation) in which we have to see England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
I have briefly mapped out the places I really need to see - as this is a
once in a lifetime trip and I was wondering if you would be able to help me
with the following questions -
>
>We are going to start in London - then to Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Builth
Wells, Shrewsbury, Caernafon, Anglesea, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester,
Lancaster, Carlisle, Ayr, Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen, Stonehaven,
Edinburgh, York, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Warwick and then
back to London. I know I haven't included Ireland but I was thinking of
doing a 3 to 6 day bus tour if we can fit it in.
>
>Question time
>
>I require a list of cemeteries for the area's above so I can visit my dead
relatives and maybe parishes in the area's as well especially in the
Somerset & Ayr regions - how does one get this info??
>
>How do you think we should travel around - car or public transport?
>
>Does anyone know of clean, cheap Bed & Breakfasts that we could stay in??
>
>I would like to go to Clutton as well, where you all had your first reunion
of the Bristol & Somerset gathering - if I couldn't be there last year - I
might touch something that one of you guys did and it will make me feel part
of it. I know I get more sentimental as I get older - lol - also I have
been told to go the Cotswold Cottage's area - am I going to be near there in
the towns I want to visit???
>
>Are there any maps or road maps that I could purchase to see where my
EDGELL ancestors lived in Somerset??
>
>I really think that I have asked too many questions in one email - I will
hang on to the others for next time.
>
>I really appreciate all the help and information over the year from the
list members and I am sure I can say THANK YOU now for the responses I will
receive on the above questions
>Good luck to everyone in their research for 2002
>Kindest regards
>Darlene in Australia
