There are two separate Barracks at Redford known as the Cavalry Barracks
and Infantry Barracks. The Cavalry Barracks used to be the home of the
Royal Scots Greys who prior to mechanisation rode beautiful grey horses and
has a stable yard to the rear. When there is a State Occassion in the
City, the Household Cavalry are based there, it is also used as the base
for the performers at the Edinburgh Tattoo who rehearse on the parade
ground. It is also used as a transit camp at times.
The Infantry Barracks were modernised circa 1970, with new barrack blocks
being built also additional married quarters, a new hospital block has
also been added.
There is also in close proximity Dreghorn Barracks which weree modernised
and extended circa 1990.
Hope this helps.
