Hi, Joyce,
Census data is not always correct. Sometimes a neighbor gave the
information.
It can be very helpful or send you off on a wild goose chase.
It could also be that someone knew he came from Canada and thought he was
born there not knowing he had been born in Ireland.
Hope this helps!
Laura
PS: I have one census record that has my great grandmother listed as Ellen
her name was Helen. The census taker "heard it wrong".
Also, and kind of record can be "inaccurate". My grandfather and his twin
sister were in their late 70s when he discovered he was listed as
Josephine and she was listed as Anthony. He was 6' 5" and had to argue with
the clerk to get the record amended. Needless to say, he
knew he was a guy named Joseph and his sister was a gal named Anne. The
midwife gave the wrong information to the city in 1894. Isn't this fun!
