Hi, Judith,
The St. Louis, MO branches do allow remote access for library patrons.
We log in and have a password. I use remote access all the time.
It would not surprise me that this library is patterning after that.
When our library first put these in they had a short time period of free
access as well.
I do not believe this was a "come-on" at all. I think it was listed
somewhere as a public service and this person saw it and passed it on.
