Subject: [ABERDEEN] FOWLIEs from Tyrie SCT
Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2003 20:14:26 -0800
I am pursuing the family of Alexander FOWLIE who are buried in the kirkyard of Tyrie, Aberdeenshire. However there are discrepancies between the dates on the MI and in the IGI for what appear to be the same people. Perhaps someone has further information that may clear up the confusion - different individuals with the same names? inaccuracies in the MI? inaccuracies in the IGI? Wrong conclusions on my part? Here is what I have found so far:
MI: Alexander FOWLIE died 20 Mar 1789 aged 68 making his dob c 1721
IGI: Alexander FOWLIE son of William FOWLIE and Margaret STEPHEN chr Tyrie
16 Mar 1731. Their other children were chr 1727-1735, making a date of
1731 more likely than 1721. I believe William and Margaret to be the parents of this Alexander FOWLIE.
MI: Isabel KIDD, wife of AF above died 11 March 1801 aged 84 making her dob 1717. She might have been four years older than her husband but 14 years seems unlikely.
MI: Alexander's daughter Agnes died 29 April 1767 aged 12.
IGI: Agnes FOWLIE daughter of Alexander FOWLIE chr 19 Nov 1751 Tyrie, making her 16, not 12 in 1767.
MI: James FOWLIE son of AF above died 20 April 1780 aged 21 making his dob 1759
IGI: James FOWLIE son of Alexander FOWLIE chr 7 November 1756 Tyrie making him 24 in 1780, not 21.
I realize these are all common names, but the combination, along with the connection to other family names on the stone, seems more than coincidence.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I would be grateful for any ideas.
Thanks
Barbara (Fowlie) Hutcheson
