Hi Kerrie,

How do you know that Alexander DONALD was b Monymusk? Have I got it right
that the father of your James DONALD b 12 Jan 1857 Tullynessle & Forbes was
given as Alexander DONALD, Woodend, Cluny?

In the 1861 census in Cluny at Bogentory was Alexander DONALD, 33, crofter
of 8 acres, b Monymusk; wife Mary Ann, 27 b St Nicholas, Aberdeen; children
Mary Ann, 2; & Margaret, 1, both b Cluny.

George WATT has sent you this family in the 1881 census. Alexander DONALD m
Mary Ann MCKENZIE/TORRIE on 25 Dec 1857 in St Nicholas Aberdeen.

(The other young possible Alexander DONALD in Cluny in 1861 was aged 25.
The family consisted of Alexander DONALD, 25, farmer of 64 acres, b Echt;
mother Margaret DONALD, 48, W, b Echt; siblings Mary DONALD, 19; Robert
DOANLD, 16; William DONALD, 10; Margaret DONALD, 7. This farm was on page 1
of enumeration district 4. The indexer, Evelyn GILL couldn't make out the
address, but the next farm was Drumnahoy. In 1851 this family were at
Gight, Cluny, John DONALD, 52, farmer of 48 acres, b Echt; wife Margaret,
38, b Echt; children Alexander, 15, Jane, 13; John, 11; Mary, 9; Robert, 6;
James, 3; William, 9m. This was John DONALD & Margaret DUTHIE who m 22 Nov
1834 Echt, and their Alexander was b 9 Sep 1835.)

Woodend is about 1 mile north of Drumnahoy, and lies in enumeration district
5 in the 1861 census. There are no DONALDs in the actual farm of Woodend,
but next door at Woodside Cottage of Woodend are Alexander DONALD, 61, ag
lab, farmer of 5 acres, b Skene; wife Margaret DONALD, 58, b Cluny;
grandson, Alexander HOGG, 9, b Banchory Devenick. In the 1851 census this
family is at Woodend Cottages, Alexander DONALD, 52, ag lab, b Skene; wife,
Margaret, 49, b Cluny; children Alexander, 23; Mary, 16, both b Monymusk;
Robert, 9; Patrick, 6 both b Cluny. This is the family of Alexander DONALD
& Margaret RENNIE. They m 29 Dec 1821 Skene. There is no c record for
their son Alexander or dau Mary in the Monymusk OPR. It seems likely that
their Alexander is the one who m Mary Ann McKenzie TORRIE & this could be
easily checked with the 1857 marriage cert. It also seems probable that he
is your Alexander.

The other Alexander DONALD that George WATT sent you from the 1881 census,
Alexander DONALD of Brankenteum, Monymusk was a lifelong bachelor who was
also living at Brankie, Monymusk in 1861.

Regards, Carol.
