Subject: [ABERDEEN] Banff Film & DICK family.

Yesterday, I started re reading a film, which was one of the first that I
ever read,
18 or 20 years ago, my mission then, may have been to stick to one branch,
& just go back as far and as quick as I could do so.
Anyway, Banff Film from the LDS 990817, gave me such riches that I had
previously bypassed, in my
wish to get the Tree " done ".
I found a Brother of my line , ( previously noted & ignored, ), anyway, one
entry gave me this.
John DICK second child named after John Taylor Blitcher in Bondie Parish
Father ; Peter Dick Blitcher to George Robinson Esq Provost of Banff &
lawful son to John Dick sometime shoe maker in Boyndie Parish & Elizabeth
Stivinson his wife.
Mother, Margaret Meare lawful daughter of James Meare Monwhiter Parish
Child was born 16 April 1785 Baptised 18 April 1785.
Witnesses John Taylor Bletcher in Boyndie & William Dick Maltman in
Reidstalk Banff Parish.
The spelling is as was written, I understand as I followed through the film
the occupation was Bleacher,
the parish Monquhitter, & Boyndie, & Stevenson is probably the name of
Elizabeth, & I know that James was Mair, not Meare.
BUT the moral of the story is; this gave me 3 generations on a sighting of
the original film.
I also found connections with other families. I have in recent years looked
at the witnesses ,
this film gave more than that.
One child recorded, showed she was named after her Aunt & gave the address
of the Aunt in England. Sadly that was not my family !
This is a plea to those who resist going back to the original source.
The IGI would never, NEVER, have given me the Occupations, the
Grandparents, of the child etc.
The Spelling mistakes are small detail compared with the information that
the Clerk or Minister
recorded, he must have been so pedantic in his work.
A very happy
Mary
