Drawn or guided? Two years ago my husband and I traveled to Ohio from
Washington for a family reunion (his side). On the way there we stopped in Illinois
to find my Grandfather Watson's grave. I had the name of the Cemetery and
the death date, unfortunately the day we were able to search was a Sunday.
Never having done a search before, we had no idea that there would be no one there
to help us. The weather was hot and muggy. We had no clue where to start.
We found some shade to park the car and looked around hoping there was some
pattern to the grave sites. Maybe the older ones were in one section? Boy was
I dumb! We decided to do a cursory look and then come back early the next
morning before we hit the road again. My husband headed down one aisle and I
headed down another. Before long I heard my husband mumbling something about
Thomas Watson 1918. At first I didn't pay much attention until I remembered that
I had not told him the death date. "That's it !" I said. There it was right
beside the driveway. We took pictures and did some grave rubbings. We were
both thrilled and amazed. Had we been guided or was it just dumb luck?
