I have been readng these posts for a few days now and figured I would add my little story to them.
I had moved up to Northern California about 500 miles from where I had lived in San Diego county. I started doing my genealogy and went to the LDS family history room in the next town. I put in a the name Mandred Cline and found him and wife Mary Ellen Clark. Well in the Clarks I found a Slinker (ggggg grandfather). I said to the lady working there what a strange name. She said what is it....I told her Slinker and low and behold she told me her son had a friend in Ky withthe same name and I could call him in Knob Lick, Ky. I called and he said to talk to his grandma....when I contacted her she had researched my Slinkers and was working on it for the LDS in KY. She told me that the Slinkers had come from Hamburg, Germany in the late 1600s and had been indentured for many years and when they were finally freed the papers of 2 families and had been given to the wrong families and the were afraid to say any thing. I couldn't believe by just being at that library I cou!
