Allan Gray, a brother of my Great Grandfather Alexander Gray was born in
1872 at Mill of Cavil (Cavel ?) , Parish of Fintray. I have been unable
to find such a place on any of the maps I have, does anyone with local
knowledge know if it still exists or where it would have been most
likely to have been located.

Hi Alex
Re Cavil/Cavel
I may be wrong here, but I think the place is now called Goval.
There was a mill there in 1832 and I can't find a more likely one
on the Victorian OS map where it's just a tiny building next to
Govalbank.
It's hard to tell, but the Grid Ref seems to be NJ879155.
You can see the place [roughly] at http://tinyurl.com/4o6ho
The Mill is on Thomson's 1832 map.
Go to http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early/523.html
Click on the bottom right map and then click on the top section.
If you zoom in, you'll see Fintray parish, outlined in a sort of green.
The New Mill is in the south-east corner
On the modern map the building's a bit from the stream but that
may not be the actual mill. Given that Goval House is nearby,
a mill may well have been alongside.
