Subject: Dr Garioch's will 1828

Hi listers,
I've been lurking for sometime on this list as my Aberdeenshire research seems to
have come to a standstill, but I have an interest in the Dr as an ancestor in Glasgow
was said to be a benficiary of a Dr Garrick. The will index entry below is the only
one I can find that comes close.
Garioch James 28/06/1828 surgeon in Easter Knowhead of Tarland Extract Testament
Aberdeen Sheriff Court Wills SC1/37/5 (7 pages)
Garioch James 28/06/1828 Doctor, Surgeon in Easter Knowhead of Tarland T. 28/06/1828
SC1/37/5/p333 Aberdeen Sheriff Court Inventories SC1/36/5 (7 pages)
As the death was in Aberdeenshire I thought this would be the best place to start.
Apparently the Dr's widow was to live off the interest, on her passing the estate was
to be split between many benficiaries. The odd thing in this family tale is that the
estate was supposedly somehow connected to Robert the Bruce. There were 2 seperate
payouts with the remainder going to the Scottish government. The 2nd payout was
before 1890.
I would love to hear from anyone with insight into this. Apparently there was a lot
of public bickering over it that dragged on for many years. The ancestor whom was the
recipient was Hannah Monteith, dau of John Monteith and Maryanne Shepphard.
Many thanks for any help,
