I am wondering if someone can answer a couple of questions for me about the 1841 census.
First, does the age given refer to the age at the last birthday or age at the next birthday? I understand that for adults, the age was rounded to the nearest 5, but I am looking at William Allan in New Deer who is listed as 17. I am trying to find a William Allan who was born in January or February of 1825, according to his death registration. Since he married a girl from New Deer, I am tempted to think that the one I have found may be him.
My second question refers to the remarks section of the census. For this William Allan in New Deer, who is listed as a farm servant, the remark is Outhouse. To what does Outhouse refer?
Many thanks,
