Dear Listers,
I would be grateful if anyone could help me find out more about my great grandfather. According to census information he was born in Premney, but the igi does not show details of a baptism. Are there any records not on the igi that anyone has access to? His parents were George Fordyce, a crofter and Jane Moir.
James worked as a Carter in Huntley for many years.
He was twice married, firstly to Elizabeth Brodie who had 5 children: Jane 1863, John Brodie 1865, Adam Cruikshank 1866,
Alexander 1868, and William 1871.
His second marriage was to Helen Glass, who brought a child Isabella to the marriage, and with her he had 2 more children: Helen 1876, and John 1880. In 1896 a grandson James McGregor was born, possibly Helen Jn's. son.
My grandmother Jessie Ann Fordyce was born between James' marriages, her mother Elizabeth Ann Cunningham working as his housekeeper at that time. I therefore know virtually nothing about James Fordyce despite his long life, mostly spent in Huntly where he died in Scotts hospital having outlived both wives and his "housekeeper".
I'd dearly love to know more, and hope that with so many offspring some descendants may still live in the area. Granny Jessie must have grown up only a street or so away from his new family.
Any help anyone can give me to find out more would be much appreciated.
Mary
