I received this copy of John Abernethy's obituary from Robert A
Abernethy in Calif. It is fairly long so please read and hopefully
someone will be able to use the information.

MR. JOHN ABERNETHY, AUGHRIMDERG HOUSE, STEWARTSTOWN.
The late Mr. Abernethy, Aughrimderg House, Stewartstown, died on
Friday afternoon, at the advanced age of 82 years. He was a member of a
family long and honourably associated with the County of Tyrone. He was
respected by all who knew him, and his affable disposition gained him
many friends. He was the possessor of clear intellect and a retentive
memory, and could relate scenes which took place over three quarters of
a century ago. He was broad-minded and tolerant in his religious and
political views, and was held in the highest esteem by those who
differed widely with him both in religion and politics. He leaves four
sons and three daughters, six of whom have made comfortable homes in the
United States, while the daughter who remained at home nursed and cared
him in his declining years.
The funeral took place on Sunday when the remains were removed for
interment to the family burying-ground, Donaghendry Church,
Stewartstown. The funeral was large and representative and was of a
striking proof of the esteem in which the family is held in the
district. The Rev. T.A. Speer, B.A. officiated at the house and the
graveside.
The coffin was of solid oak with massive brass mounting and covered
with wreaths and bore the following inscription:- JOHN ABERNETHY Died
27th February 1920.
Wreaths: "In loving memory of dear father, from Jeannie and Bessie;
from loving grand-daughter Sarah Jane.
The chief mourners were: - Miss Jeannie Abernethy (daughter), Mrs.
Thomas Farrell (grand-daughter), Robert, Hugh, William and David Elder,
Wm. Abernethy, Hugh Thomas Abernethy and Edward Brown (nephews), Mrs
Thompson, Portadown (sister-in-law); Thomas Farrell, Ever Green House
Ardboe (grand-son-in-law); Edward, Robert, William, and Edward Abernethy
(cousins), Robert, David, Harry Abernethy (relatives).
Owing to the size of the funeral it would be impossible to give
anything approaching a full list. Miss Abernethy on behalf of her
friends and herself, thanks all who attended the funeral; also those who
sent messages of sympathy in her sad breavement.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. B.S. Brown,
Stewartstown.
