Don/t give up. Some Abernathys have been in America since the 1700's. The
problem is that I think that they hide under rocks and behind trees. Many
lived in Brunswick Co. Va. , with names like Miles, and Liles and Signal and
Tignal. Lots of them intermarried with Harwells. In the early 1800s many of
the sons in these families moved to Tenn., with a whole bunch settling in
Giles co. I have been searching for relatives of my grgrandfather Charles
Abernatha (many different spellings) who shows up in the 1850 census in
McCracken Co. Ky. Accordingly, he was 27, born in Va. and a farmer. 4
years ago, my sister and I spent 3 days in Brunswick Co. looking for clues
as to possible links with him and came away empty handed. There were 2 other
Abernathys in McCracken County in 1850 census, a William and a John, who
were brothers to a HH or HG Abernathy who had a tobacco warehouse in
Christian Co. My Charles had no apparent connection to these Abs who came
from Brunswick Co. Va. We live with frustration!!!!! Keep hunting, some
day All will be made clear. (I hope)
