Hi, I was always told that originally----Creoles were born in Louisiana,
but had to have parents or grandparents that came directly from a
Eurpean country. This was usually France (not Acadia) or Spain. This
then included Blacks also since many had Eurorpean forefathers. Thru
the years, the difinition changed to include many differnt split off
groups. I had a book from the library, sorry I don't remember the
title, but it was something that said the origin or difinition of Creole
in the title. What I got was is that in todays difinition, you can be
just Cajun or you can be Cajun/Creole, or Creole. I was just in New
Orleans and what I picked up from there was that (especially years ago)
most of the Creoles were from that general area and the Cajuns more from
SW (of New Orleans) Louisiana ( I do know that there were/are some
Parishes close by New Orleans that did/do have Cajuns that did not go to
the SW Louisiana area, but most did go SW of New Orleans. I suggest you
ask the library or go on line and look under Creole difinition. It is
very possible I got the title from someone from this Acadian/Cajun
group. Hope this helps. BG , mostly Cajun ( Acadian), but I did find
several ancestors that went to Louisiana directly from France. : )
