Subject: MICHEL dit Laruine

My 5th great-grandmother was identified by Fr. P.M. Hebert in his book Les
Acadiens dans Bellechasse as Barbe MICHEL dit Laruine, which makes her the
daughter of Francois and Marguerite MEUNIER of Pisiguit. The problem is that
there are no primary sources given on this. The marriage records of her
daughters from St. Charles, Bellechasse 1764-66 give her name variously as
"Aaron," "Harri" and "Arouine." I have written Fr. Hebert who referred me to
Sylvain Gaudet in Montreal. Two letters to him ( Oct. 1998, and May 1999)
have not been answered. I also hired a researcher in Montreal who spoke with
him in July; he promised to write. Nothing so far.

The difficulty is that Barbe Laruine's husband was Michel ULRICH, a "German"
who signed his name in a German script. Their three known daughters would
have been born c. 1738 (or earlier) - 1744. If Barbe was Acadian, that places
Ulrich in Nova Scotia c. 1737 or earlier. If she is really another "German"
surnamed "Aron" or "Ahren" then this family might have come over c. 1750, for
example, with the "foreign Protestants." No records have been found there
either for Michel Ulrich. The family seems to have been Catholic.
Does anyone see a way out here? Thanks for any advice!
