Hello: I have traced my Acadian family line rather thoroughly, thanks to the
accurate records kept by the Catholic Churches and all the Acadian cousins.
However, I wonder if anyone out there can help me with this: I know that my
fourth great grandfather was Dr. Jean Jacque (James) Raoul (a French
Emmigrant from Brittany hired as the doctor for the Acadians by the Spanish)
who was the doctor on the LaVille de Archangel in 1885 when it brought
Acadians to Spanish Louisiana. I know that he married Marie Elizabeth
Aucoin, daughter of Alexandre Aucoin and Rosalie Theriot Aucoin. I know
that Jean Jacque Raoul's parents were Jean Jacque Raoul and Servante Aubry.
Would anyone know if these notes would be referring to Jean Jacque (James)
Raoul's father: Note l. THE VAUDREIUL PAPERS: 1743-1753: Jean Raoul called
"La Montagne". List of French Troops maintained at N. O. by Company
(Gauviel's Company (?) ) NOTE II: From THE FIRST FAMILIES OF LOUISIANA VOL.
II by Glen R. Conrad 1970c: Jean Raoul: Discharged May 1, 1751. Any
clarification of the parents of Dr. Jean Jacque Raoul would be appreciated.
Thanks! (Martha Henagan Luby)
