Hi Ginny and Everybody - It is a fact that Daniel LeBlanc was enlisted -
along with the others who sailed to Acadia at that time - to pioneer Acadia
by the enlistment of D'Aulnay. The port they may have sailed from does not
make it a place of origin. For whatever reason people want to pidgeon hole
Daniel into where he supposedly came from in France is beyond me. Again, it
is the *truth* that we have with bona fide documentation that matters. That
what we would like it to be as that serves no purpose to the genealogical
community.
Bona Arsenault also did a lot of assuming. Something researchers should
never - do if they are in search of true facts. However, I must add to that
statement that at the time, Bona's work was an immense contribution. People
didn't necessarily read his information correctly either. In Bona's
genealogy work, when he states a definite date, that is because he saw the
documentation. When he says the "may be's or the "could be's" that is
because he did not view document, got it third party, etc. and was thus not
sure. People who do not read French took those dates and believed that
there were it - or took the "could be the child of" and took it for gospel.
We can place any of our ancestors anywhere we want to "assume" they came
from - as we know that doesn't make it the truth - the lack of documents is
what I find disconcerting when anybody wants to insist that Daniel or any
ancestors came from "wherever" - unless there is concrete proof, how can one
insist? I would challenge anybody to site a source for Daniel's place of
origin. I would wager the responses would be FTM, Ancestry.com and LDS - I
would love to be proven wrong and to have real evidence. I believe that if
professional researchers like Stephen White (who is a LeBlanc descendant)
has been unable to find this documentation but yet has been able to prove
that the lines attributed to being Daniel's are erroneous and belong to a
DeBlanc family, then why does anyone continue to insist? I just have come
to the point that I think any web sites giving this information are
rendering a disservice to the genealogical community and moreover to the
LeBlanc descendants seeking their true roots. Have a great day and thank
you for asking Ginny! <smile> Lucie
