Hi James,
Just read your message. Bouctouche, New-Brunswick Canada www.bouctouche.org
has just this year started to celebrate la chandeleur again. Volunteers went
door to door and collected non-perishable food items worth 5 000$ that was
donated to our local food bank. There was no party this year...but we plan
on having one next year! :=)

> The first week in February brings La Chandeleur, an age old Acadian
tradition revived in Tignish last year. In and around the community this
week, a group of colourfully dressed visitors will be stopping at various
community centres to spread their cheer and collect food for the needy.
Organizer David Le Gallant explained the group usually goes door to door,
but this year, on request, the participants decided to try stopping at
central places and wait for people to come to them. The group is being
pulled around in a bright red sleigh pulled by a horse named "Dew".
Participants come from as far away as Montreal.

on P.E.I. over 100 years ago. The food being gathered this year is being
donated to the Tignish Caring Cupboard (food bank). As part of the
tradition, the Festin de la Chandeleur (a feast) will be held February 6th
at the Club Ti-Pa.
