there seems to be a problem with some people about the cd - I am putting out in regards to the families of Bay Chaleur and their Acadian connection
well i want to set the record straight - for those of you who have questions and have gone and asked a certain other person instead of me regrading my cd - if you have questions or concerns - why are you not asking me who worked very hard on the cd infromation and the format presentation - instead of going to someone who does not know me - and has not seem my work - or seen how i have helped many people get on the right track for helping them trace to their familie trees
i do not kown it all - in fact i am still learning - and learning alot - but for people make very serious judgement calls before they see the work - and for people to be to chicken to come as ask me quesitons about my work - and go to someone whom i don't - is wrong -
the big problem here is sources - and from what i feel - we will never get away from the sources issue but - i want to get beyond this issue - anyone whom i have send info to - and who wants to know where i got my information from - i have told them with hesitation where my research came from -
but someone feels that this is not good enough - because the sources do have mistakes in them - yes i realize there are mistakes in the information - but when they are the only sources for the area - and there is no one to turn to - what do you do - you take the information for what it;'s worth - and when you new info - then you update and correct what you have. Nothing is set in stone - we can fix and correct our inof - are we not on this list to server to share our inof and if we have it wrong - someone will correct us
but please don't put someone down for using info from say Bona Arseanault, Patrice Gallant or any of the other researchers out there - we are only human - we try the best we can - but we make mistakes -
take the info for what is worth - the person came from such and such a place around this time frame - and go looking in that area
for many people where they live - they do not have access to information on the area they are researching because it is not in their locality or state boundaires - and they are looking for help where to go looking - some people are greatful for any information they get - they will let them know where to go looking for more info - and people are willing to share what they have found
but when someone is told their information is wrong becasue they have no source or if came form so and so who makes mistakes this is very wrong - and i don't what that information - and you should not be passing on that information - this is very wrong - instead they could be told politily from such and such document this is what the inof really is (ie birth, death, marriage certifiacate etc)
>From what I am hearing even govenment records for B/D/M are wrong - well then who can you believe when you get your B/D/M certificates from the government - are these records no good
let the person them selves make the call if they want to accept the information or thro the info in the garabage - but do not put them down becasue they have no source - or it is the wrong one - be thankful they are willing to take the time to share their research with you.
Some people have taken over family tree projects started by a parent or some other relavtive - before the invention of computers and e-mail - they had to rely of family histories, family bibles, government records, tombstone inscription, what ever resource they could get to trace their family tree -
a lot of hard work went into this - did they do it to deceive people - no they thought whole heartly their info was correct - but people make mistakes - just in inturpreting a date ie 12/3/99 it could be Dec 3 1999 or March 12 1999 - just to show you how a simple mistake can be make.
I feel i have said enought - and i hope this subject can finally be let go -
give people a change and be thankful they are willing to share their info with you - if it were not for the people willing to share - i am sure many of us would still be at the beginning stages of family trees -
if you do not what to accept the information because it did not come from so and so who has not even touched the area or come to the time frame you are working on - kindly thank the person for sharing and then delete it - (but to you could be missing some very important information) - but it is your choice - not someone else who has told you - it is not good -
we all have the feedom of choice to accept what we want to accept = but do not discourage those who try - they have important info to share - that just may benifit someone out there who is thankful for the time and effort they have put in their work -even if it does not meet your personal standard.
I hope we can now move on from this topic
