Subject: Parents of Marie Julie Alizida or Julie Marie Alizida dit Nezilda or Lesida GREM
Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2000 21:21:06 EDT

I am looking for the names of the parents of Marie Julie Alizida or Julie
Marie Alizida dit Nezilda or Lesida GREMILLION (parents unknown) who married
, Joseph PICARD (Joseph Picard and Amelie LeJeune) was probably born in 1823,
and was married at Pointe Coupée .probably sometime before Oct. 1842 (9 mos
before 1st child was born)
Joseph and Alezida Gremillion lived in Pointe Coupée Parish in an area
called "The Island" near False River (New Roads), Louisiana. The identity of
the parents of Alezida Gremillion is still in question. It is believed by
some that Lesida was the d/o Paulin Gremillion and Severine Decuir, and was
bn. ca. 1822?23. No date of her marriage to Joseph Picard has been found and
this could be due to the Pointe Coupée records for the years 1814-1837 are
missing from Diocese of Baton Rouge. They had four known children.
It is believed that Joseph Picard and Lesida were divorced before he died.
However, There is no record of the divorce.

However, other records of Lezida (Alizeda) Gremillion can be found, and in
these records, she is listed as Marie Julie Lesida Gremillion. Lezida died on
the Island of False River in Point Coupée (New Roads) on 14 September 1876
and buried on 15 September 1876 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lakeland,
Louisiana.

Julie Lezida GREMILLION, (parents not listed), widow of Joseph PICARD, who
died in 1858 and current wife of Zenon GREMILLION, died on 14 September, 1876
and was buried on the Island of False River, at Immaculate Conception Church,
in Lakeland (Pointe Coupée parish), Louisiana on 15 September 1876, she was
53 (parents not given) (IMC?2, 87A) (B.R. Cath Ch. Rec.Vol 13 ? 1874?1876 )
If she was 53 at the time of her death, then she would have been born in
1823, which is the same year her 1st husband, Joseph PICARD, was born.

NOTE:
Every time that Lesida Gremillion's name is found in the Baton Rouge
Catholic Church Records, her parents' names are not listed. This has caused a
lot of frustration and confusion.

Brian Costello, from Pointe Coupée, in a letter to me, suggested that Irenee
Gremillion (Charles Gremillion and Jeanne LeGrue, b. 1812) and Herphile
(Europhile) Joffrion (Joseph Jopson Joffrion and Julie Guerin), had a
daughter whose name was Marie Julie Lesida Gremillion b. ca. 1822. He states
that Marie Julie Lesida Gremillion was married twice, dates unknown, 1st to:
Joseph Picard, Jr. son of Joseph Picard and Brigette LeJeune, probably
sometime before Oct. 1842 (9 months before their 1st child Thomas was born).
However, when trying to match up all of the dates, etc, Marie Julie Lesida
Gremillion's birth date (approximated from her age at death) leaves too large
a discrepancy with her alleged siblings. Brian also lists Irenee's birth date
as 1812, which is 10 years later than November 28, 1802 that is listed in the
Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records as Irenee's date of birth, making him
about 19 to 20 years old when it is assumed that Lesida was born. Using
Brian's date of birth would make him only 9 or 10 years old. Unfortunately
there is more work to be done here.

Thelma Richard also disputes this theory with a very plausable suggestion,
that Marie Julie Lesida Gremillion's parents were Paulin Gremillion, I and
Severine Decuir. Thelma states that "In the publication, "Laconteur" ? vols.
6?9, 1986?1989, it states that the Pointe Coupée Church records, from
1814?1837 are missing. This makes researching Joseph PICARD and Marie Julie
Lesida GREMILLION difficult.

Her theory on the parents of Marie Alizida Gremillion is based on
Marie?Lesida and Joseph Picard being asked to be sponsors in the baptism of
Marie Lesida Gremillion d/o of Paulin Gremillion and Euphemie Chenevert on 8
March 1840. Thelma states that it follows that Paulin Gremillion named his
daughter after Marie Julie Lesida Gremillion and chose her as the child's
god?mother. Thelma further believes that this means that Marie Lesida
Gremillion and Paulin Gremillion were closely related, possibly siblings.

Since Paulin Gremillion was the son of Paulin Gremillion and Severine
Decuir, and was born on 7 April 1814, and, because the Pointe CoupTe Church
records, from 1814?1837 are missing, resulting in there not being any record
of the births of any more children to Paulin and Severine Decuir after this
date, Thelma believes that Marie Julie Lesida Gremillion was the sister of
Paulin Gremillion, II , and the daughter of Paulin Gremillion, I and
Severine Decuir, and was born (ca. 1822) sometime during the period of the
missing church records.

Another time that Joseph PICARD and Marie?Lesida GREMILLION were sponsors at
a GREMILLION baptism is the following: Jules Gremillion (Irenee Gremillion
and Herphile Joffrion) bn. 16 July 1842 bt. 9 July 1843 spo. Joseph Picard
and Julie Gremillion (PCP?10, 28) (vol 6, p. 286) One could come to the same
conclusion here as Thelma does with the other baptism and support Brian
Costello's theory.

Thelma will be trying to find the Paulin Gremillion, I family in the 1830
census of Pointe Coupée, to see if she can find Lesida listed

Can anyone out there help us?
