My name is Shirley Domingue Metrejean, born and raised in Opelousas, St.
Landry Parish, Louisiana. I lived in the New Orleans area for 23 years and
now live in northeast Louisiana. Looking forward to my husbands retirement
when we can move back "home" to Cajun Country!

I had always wondered about my ancestry and just this past Summer my nine
year old granddaughter asked the question, "Grandma, why do you have so many
cousins?" I told her I'd write it down. Being a good Grandmother...well,
here I am knee deep in researching my ancestry AND my husbands.

By Christmas, I had gathered enough information about our "major" lines,
pictures, wrote a page or two about the wonderful people I was blessed to
have known and love. I wrote stories of what life was like when I was
growing up, how Grandpa and I met, fell in love and got married. All of
this was printed and put into three ring binders (so information could be
added). I gave a copy to each of my children and grandchildren for
Christmas. The joy of watching as they opened this special gift made
especially for them!

I am still gathering information and now learning about my heritage....Ah,
the wisdom of putting information into three ring binders as I had only
scratched the surface by Christmas!

The major lines in my ancestry: DOMINGUE, PITRE, with branches in PREJEAN,
BOURG, BROUSSARD, SCHEXNAYDRE, CARROLL, and WHITTINGTON.

The major lines in my husbands ancestry: METREJEAN/MAITREJEAN, O'DONNELL,
with branches in VICKNAIR, ACHEE, BROUSSARD, MORALES, BOURG, CUVILLIER.

The members of this list have been most helpful in sharing information (and
translating French) about the people, places and the history of our
ancestors....AND...the bonus of meeting so many cousins! I can answer my
granddaughters question..."I was blessed!"
