Hi Gordon,
What I have on Jean LaGrange who married Marie Fontenot is that he was the
son of Jean Jason de La Grange who left LaRochelle, France on May 28 1719 on
the La Marie, destined for the Louisiana colony. With him were his wife,
Marie Ferdinande Cotet and their daughter, Isabelle Jansot. Jean Sauson was
26 years old. They settled in Mobile where Jean (Baptiste) was born in 1728.
The son married Marie Fonteneau, also a native of Mobile, born 1729, d.
1820. Then Jean Baptiste and his family apparently moved to the German Coast
where their son Henri was born. The ship's passengers were said to be
"deserters and others," who were being sent to Louisiana by order of the king.
I have yet to prove the exact status as of this time. Maybe you will be the
one to break down our brick wall.
