I have a problem and need some advice on how to handle this although not so
peculiar but delicate genealogical situation. Here are the facts: 1) A
male child was born to a widow more than 1 year after her husbands death.
2) The widow was living with a family, a proven blood relative of mine. 3)
The male child always went by his deceased fathers name. 4) My family has
always stated that the male child was the illegitimate child of the man
who's house his mother was living in at the time of his birth. 5) I have
seen a picture of both the male child and the man that raised him and there
is a definite resemblance. 6) The male child's grandson reported to me
that his grandfather told him the man that raised his was his biological
father. 7) The male child was born at a time when no birth or death
certificates were required and no written record of his birth has been
found; only census records place his birth and his fathers death.
My questions are: 1) Can I accept the grandchild's word as proof of
lineage? 2) How else can i prove this mans lineage?
I send these questions out to you in a hope for clarification and guidance.
I continue to search for more proof.
Thanks for your help,
James
