Don,

The record was recorded in the parish records by the priest but this doesn't
always indicate that the ceremony was performed there especially in the
early days. The courthouse records are more accurate since these weren't
recorded prior to courthouses being established. In the real early days,
many marriages were performed by the Commandants of the Posts and then later
by the Parish Judges.

It was always my understanding that the church in the town or Parish was the
place where the ceremony was performed. As in the case where the Court House
is mentioned, then this is where the license was obtained or the marriage
was
recorded.
