In the 9 April 1766 census of Cabanocy is found the following:

Pierre Chiansson 37 [Pierre Chiasson, son of Abraham Chiasson & Marie
Poirier]
Ositte L'Andry 32 [Osite Marguerite Landry, daughter of Jean Landry
& Madeleine
Melanson]
Michel, son 7
Marie, daughter 1
Jean-Baptiste, nephew 4 [son of Joseph Chiasson & Annette Saulnier]
Paul Chiansson 20 [Paul Chiasson, son of Abraham Chiasson & Marie Poirier,
brother
of Pierre]

Since Jean-Baptiste is only 4 and living with his uncle, this indicates a
high probability that both his parents died after 12 August 1763 when they
were listed as prisoners in Halifax and before the 9 April 1766 census.

Pierre Chiasson and his family probably did not come to Louisiana with
Joseph Broussard in February 1765, but were in the group of 80 exiles who
arrived May 4, 1765 (also from Halifax by way of Santo Domingo). This group
was compelled to settle along the right bank of the Mississippi, above the
German District.

The first record of Pierre in Louisiana is the baptism of his daughter Marie
on 9 Dec 1765, born 12 Oct 1765 (ADONO SACRAMENTAL RECORDS V. 2 P.56)

I think Annette Saulnier may have been the daughter of Etienne Saulnier and
his first wife, Jeanne Comeau. It is indicated Etienne had 12 chilldren, but
I have been able to identify only 9. Etienne and the rest of his family were
prisoners at Halifax so it indicates to me Annette may be 1 of the 3 unkown
children. The age of Jean-Baptiste would suggest a marriage about 1761, the
time Joseph Broussard (and Etienne Saulnier & his family) surrendered to the
British.

SINCE THE INFORMATION CAME UP ON ETIENNE SONNIER, DOES ANYONE HAVE MORE
INFORMATION ON THIS FAMILY? IN PARTICULAR I AM LOOKING FOR NANETTE (ANETTE)
WHO MARRIED JOSEPH CHAISSON. THEY WERE BOTH IMPRISONED IN HALIFAX. THEIR
SON JEAN BAPTISTE CAME TO LOUSIANA WITH HIS UNCLE (JOSEPH'S BROTHER). HE
WENT TO OPELOUSAS AND MARRIED MARIE LEBLANC.

JOSEPH CHAISSON WAS THE SON OFABRAHAM CHIASSON AND MARIE POIRIER.

I CAN FIND NOTHING ON JOSEPH AND ANNETTE AFTER THEY WENT TO HALIFAX AS
PRISONERS.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP

PAT GAUDET
