There is some information on the Germans who came into Louisiana from
Pennsylvania in the book The Settlement of the German Coast and Germans of
Creole Descent by J. Hanno Deiler. They arrived in August 1774 and they did
travel down the Mississippi! Natchez was a post. Some of the families went
to Opelousas and Attakapas which is the reason for the SWLR records.

Some of the inter-marriages were with the French and Acadians and also with
German/Swiss families from the German Coast.

Elton Oubre has done a lot of research on the Germans from Pennsylvania and
has published essays in the Terrebopnne Genealogical Society magazine.
I've forwarded your inquiry to him.

One interesting tidbit re the Prudhommes - one line was the first permanent
settlers in Washington, Arkansas which was the first town in Arkansas [the
Arkansas Post was the first settlement but it wasn't a town]

Subject: Re: Acadian Coast

I am interested in finding literature regarding the Acadian Coast. Can
anyone guide me to find this? I am in search of information on my ancestors
who supposedly came to Louisiana before the 1800's.

Stout/Stutes was the last name. Namely information on Michel Stout, Peter
Stout or Pierre Stout. I know factually that Pierre Stout married Amelia
Hoffpauir in the year of 1796 in Opelousas; and Michel Stout married Maria
Juliana Prudhomme in the year of 1787 in Opelousas, as told by S.W. LA.
Records. They are both supposed to be sons of Michel/Pierre and
Elizabeth/Isabel Stouts. I cannot locate any information prior to their
marriages or documentation from the S.W. LA. Records. I have only been able
to acquire information after the 1800's.

There is a statement in S.W. LA. Records as quoted:
Stout, Pierre dit Pitre inhabitant of LaQue Tortue in this parish,
originally from Pennsylvania or from Natches (Michel and Elizabeth
Allemans - from Europe)---.
Another entry quoted:
Stout, Pierre dit Pitre of Bayou Que Tortue of Pennsylvania (Michel and
Elizabeth ---) Germans from Europe married ---.

I know where Bayou Que Tortue is, I live about a mile away. I cannot locate
any information in regards to Pennsylvania, atleast not by the names I have.
As for Natches, any literature I can research from? Assumably they lived on
or moved along the Natches upon their coming to Louisiana. And the
statement that they are German well, Germans are very common in my location.
But literature I do not locate in regards to their coming to here. And as
for the last name of Alleman, didn't someone once say something regarding an
area in Louisiana named the Allemands. What literature can I research on
this?

I have stumbled across someone's entries regarding the father of these two
men, Michel/Peter. And also his father being Daniel Gottfried Stout from
Germany. But no response has been received from this individual as to where
this information was acquired or where I can go to find it for myself.

I'm sorry for being lengthy. I am at my wits end, any information or
guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brenda Stutes
