For what it may be worth, the surname "Alleman" sounds like either a French
or Spanish toponym for "German". It may be that the true surname of the
family was something else (i.e. a German surname), but that locals referred
to them as the "famille Allemand" (French) or "familia Aleman" (Spanish)
when they arrived in Louisiana.
