I second Lucie's recommendation re Francois Roux' site and Jim has actually
met Gerard Marc Breaux!
In addition to the movement within France, there were numerous schemes and
groups of Acadians were sent to several places, including The Falkland
Islands [which have been in the news recently because England gainded
control of the Falklands in 1713 - the same year as it gained Acadia and
Gibraltar and Gibraltar voted last week to reject joint British-Spanish
control], Australia, the French-controlled Islands, etc.
By the way, some of the Acadians exiled to France when Ile Royale first fell
to the British actually returned to Ile Royale and Ile St-Jean only to be
exiled again in 1758-1759 when Fortress Louisbourg fell.

John,
The Acadians, given "amnesty" by the British and shipped
to the St. Malo/St. Servan area thought that they would be
given good land, basically to replace their land lost in Acadia
& Louisburg areas. The land given to them, supposedly
good land, was actually approximately 24 kilometers (15
miles) southwest of Chattelrault and east of Archigny &
northwest of Le Puye, called le ligne Acadienne. One of
the original houses, made out of a sandstone shaped like
bricks, still stands and is a museum called Ferme Acadienne.
(My wife & I have been there twice... in September, 1986,
when we fortunate enough to find it open, and this past
May.)
The land was not good land for farming, which was all
already controlled by families, and after 2 years of failed
crops, they went in 4 "convoys" (probably wagons of sort,
as they had probably traveled there from the St. Malo/
St. Sevan area) to Nantes, pronounced "Nant", on the
Loire River near the west coast of France. Many lived
in a suburb of Chantenay until they were successful in
getting the Spanish to pay for the 7 French ships that
brought them in the latter part of 1785, as settlers, to
Spanish controlled Louisiana.
As Lucie says, Francois Roux web-site is excellent.
