We had a lenghty discussion re the "x" ending a couple of years ago!
Never did resolve it fully but I've always understood that it related to
the fact that most of the Acadians couldn't write so they made a cross
and the officials wrote the name. The cross was interpreted as an "x"
so Boudreau with the cross became Boudreaux.

The Cajuns in my part of Louisiana [New Iberia] still say I'm making my
cross when they want to indicate that they have made up their mind on an
issue.

Hi Lona... the non-use of x in Acadian names is not particular only to
Canada. Unless from Louisiana, most Acadian descendants do not use the
x at the end of the surnames. Lucie

Thanks to all who answered my questions. To Beatrice - my married
name is
Boudreaux - husband was born in Lafayette, La but raised in Texas. My
maiden name is Laughlin and I was born in New Kensington, Pa. - close
to
Pittsburgh, Pa and raised in Texas. My heritage is Scots, German,
English,
Welsh, Scots-Irish, maybe Irish and a paternal Indian grandmother that
I
hope to find one of these days.

My husband's direct Boudreaux line comes from Charles, son of Michel
and
Michelle. You must live in Canada since you don't use the X.
