Have to keep in mind there was no standard orthography way back when - one
simply spelt a word (usually a surname or placename) as one heard it, thus
an ending which sounds like "ee" in 'meet', could be spelt either with 'i',
or 'y', though most often the 'é' variation was the correct "true" French
one. The variations 'i' and 'y' are clearly English substrates, that is,
they were heavily influenced by English, and even then there's a two way
variation!

One more I have seen, though rarely: Landry spelled Landri or Landre.

Here are some alternate spellings of Acadian names - I use the ones common
to where I live. I have denoted those with the * - cousins in Louisiana
would probably use some of the names ending in x.
