Ron,
Thanks for the excellent insight. It is impossible to discuss
Acadian-Cajun traditions without discussing Food!

genealogical ,,,
Hello all youse listers
Been interesting reading all these postings regarding the use of what
some people call "non-genealogical data" on this list. I'm afraid that I
am one of those 24/7 people (my wife sometimes calls it something else)
when it comes to my "hobby". My specialty is the Gaudet family which I
have been researching for more years than I like to remember, have
compiled a database on this family of over 40,000 and tis just scratched
the surface. Usually I hate to have anything butt into my reseach time.
However, in this instance I must raise my voice in support of the way
the "recipe thingy" was done over Christmas. I must commend Margy on the
way she set it up and also commend the listers that joined in this
pursuit and adhered to her requests. The time limit was a perfect way of
controlling it as was the proper use of the subject line. I found that
on some days when I had a spare moment I could peruse the recipes (my
other hobby is cooking) while on other days when in a rush I could
by-pass them with no fear of missing something of importance to my
research. I also enjoyed the articles on the traditions as it gave me an
insight to the way others live now or lived in the past. I hope that
next year that this tradition will continue. I also hope that this list
doesnt, like some other lists, become restricted to a point to where it
gradually dies of lack of support and the listers become afraid of
saying anything other than "genealogy". Keep up the good work Margy,
and I wish upon you a bountiful year in yer research. Will be looking
forward to next Christmas or any other times when you feel this list
needs a bit of a boost. A note to those who do not like the way this
list is run. A way of correcting this is to start up your own list and
then you can control it exactly like you are requesting this one to be
done. I'm sure that there is room on Rootsweb for another list, so
instead of being critical of others, try it yourself. Till then, enjoy
the list as it is, a very well run and supported one.
