Pitre could be Acadian/Cajun [the line was originally Peters and in Nova
Scotia when given to Alexander. The line remained in NS when Alexander
had to give it up and inter-married with the Acadians and became Pitre].
Provost is french and French-Canadian. The Provosts in SW La entered
from the Illinois Region.

This is an additional listing of possibly Cajun-related surnames that
appear on the rosters of various OSS units active in France during WWII.
Do we know any of these ancestors or relatives?
