Lona,
After being released from prison in Halifax, Joseph Broussard had gotten
into trouble with the Law and had been fined and jailed. I can only surmise
that, after paying for his passage to Louisiana, he had no more Canadian
money. As Alexandre, his brother, tendered money, he may have helped pay for
Joseph's family.
