Subject: [ACADIAN-CAJUN] a quick lookup question (Ritter/Cor)
Date: Fri, 05 Mar 2004 08:35:41 -0500
Hi all,
This isn't really an Acadian line, but all of their kids married into
Acadian families so I hope no one will mind too much.....
I'm descended from Michael Ritter, a German expat, and Barbara Maria
Cor, early settlers in St. Landry Parish, LA. Michael and Barbara
married probably some time in the 1770's (their first child for whom I
have a birthdate is Michael Jr. b. in 1777 in Opelousas, LA).
I'm especially curious about Barbara. I have seen in secondary sources
two different birthplaces for her -- Antigua (an island in the
Caribbean) and England. I suspect that originally these came from some
primary source somewhere (could be wrong), and I'm trying to figure out
where this information came from.
If anyone has any southern Louisiana reference material that covers the
late 18th century, would you mind doing a (I hope) quick lookup -- and
see if you can find out where the "Antigua" and "England" birthplace for
Barbara came up? I live in the middle of rural nowhere in upstate NY
and don't really have access to Louisiana records.
I suspect that either someone found a marriage record for Michael &
Barbara (which I don't have), or that it showed up as a place of origin
in one of their kids' birth or baptismal records.
Thanks so much.... and I promise to try to stick faithfully on topic in
the future. :-)
cheers,
Gordon Bonnet
