Hi all,

While Joseph Leblanc & Marguerite Landry are NOT in my direct line,
Joseph's parents (Bonaventure LeBlanc and Marie-Josèphe Thériault) are
my husband's 6 great grandparents. He connects thru their daughter,
Marie Esther Leblanc who married Theodore Rivette (Etienne & Claire
Forest).

After reading these posts about Joseph LeBlanc & Marguerite Landry, I
realized that I have an error in my file concerning the parents of
Bonaventure Leblanc who married Marie-Josèphe Thériault.

Questions:
1) Birthdate of Bonaventure LeBlanc?
2) BRDA Vol. 3 - 1804-1819, p. 531 gives a death date for a Bonaventure
LeBlanc
"LEBLANC, Bonaventure, age 80, bur. 14 Oct. 1811 (SGA-8, 53)"
IS THIS THE SPOUSE OF Marie-Josèphe Thériault???

Any info or source material that would lead me to Bonaventure LeBlanc
will be much appreciated. I'm sure most of you are like me when
discovering a possible error in your file concerning direct lines, in
particular, the "hounddog" in me comes out...hehehe ;o), to "prove" the
new info and to "disprove" the old info.

Thanks,
Rita D. Hargroder

Hi Karen,

Family #2

Joseph LeBlanc was the son of Michel dit Michaud LeBlanc and
Marie-Josèphe Trahan who married Abt. 1741

Joseph married Marguerite Landry 18 June 1781 at St-Gabriel d'Iberville
- as you state Karen, she was the daughter of Augustin Landry and
Marie-Madeleine Babin.

Stanley & List:

I, too, have struggled with the two families headed by a Joseph LE BLANC

married to a Marguerite LANDRY. Both lived in St. Gabriel, Iberville
Parish,

Louisiana for a long time, and had children who were baptized there. All
the

records are in the wonderful Baton Rouge Diocese, CATHOLIC CHURCH
RECORDS, by date.
As best I can determine, I have the two separate groups as:

Family #1:
Joseph (dit Adans) LEBLANC, born about 1751, apparently in Acadia, son
of
Bonaventure LE BLANC & Marie Josephe THERIOT. He was grandson of Jean
(dit Des
Sapins) LE BLANC (SAW Dictionnaire p. 989) & Anne LANDRY (SAW p. 928);
Joseph
THERIOT (SAW p. 1490) & Marguerite MELANSON (SAW p. 1156). He is listed
in his
father's household in 1763 in Baltimore, MD.

He married about 1772 to Marguerite LANDRY, who was born about 1757, of
unknown parentage. She MAY have been the daughter of Etienne LANDRY &
another
Marguerite who were listed on the 1763 census at Annapolis, MD (see
Wood's A GUIDE
TO THE ACADIANS IN MARYLAND; p. 139). This Joseph LE BLANC died 28 Aug
1836,

and was buried the next day in Plattenville, Assumption Parish, LA, at
age
around 87 years.

Many of these Maryland Acadians were settled in St. Gabriel, Iberville
Parish, LA, and Joseph was there in his father's household in 1767, age
16. In 1777
[should this be 1776?] Joseph has his own household, with a wife age 20
and 4
small daughters, all born very close together (ages 3, 2, 1, and 1
month). The
children I have for them are:

(1) Marguerite LE BLANC, born 17 Jan 1773, baptized 24 Apr 1773 at St.
Gabriel (SGA-4a, 2). Esther LE BLANC [Joseph had a sister named this]
was her
godmother. She will marry twice in St. Gabriel, 1st in 1802 to another
[!] Joseph LE
BLANC, 2nd in 1817 to Eloi Jean HEBERT.

(2) Rosalie LE BLANC, born 3 Apr 1774, baptized 14 Apr 1774 in St.
Gabriel.
She will marry Michel GAREILLE in 1793 in St. Gabriel.

(3) Adelaide [probably Stanely's "Delaido"] LE BLANC, born about 1775.
She
married Thomas HEBERT in 1795 at St. Gabriel, and was buried there on 14
Sep

1832.

(4) Marine LE BLANC, born 12 Jan 1776, baptized 22 Nov 1778 at St.
Gabriel.
She married Gregoire BABIN there in 1800.

(5) Marie Louise LE BLANC, baptized on 21 Jun 1777 at St. James [why not
St.

Gabriel?] She married Abraham ARSENEAU in 1802 at St. James, and was
buried at
St. Gabriel on 2 May 1813 as "Marie [LEBLANC], age 25, spouse of Abraham

ARSENAULT of St. James, buried 2 May 1813 (SGA-8, 60)." She was also
called Elo ise, Heloise, Elise, and may be Stanley's "Eloise" and
"Marie-Elisse."

(6) Simon LE BLANC, baptized 18 Mar 1780 at St. Gabriel, married 1st in
1801

to Marie Euphrosine DUPUIS; 2nd in 1818 to Marie Rose LE BLANC. He was
buried
at St. Gabriel on 2 Jan 1854.

(7) Marie Josephe LE BLANC, born about 1783, married Marcel DUPUIS in
1806,
buried on 7 Feb 1853 at St. Gabriel.

(8) Jean Baptiste Joseph LE BLANC, born about 1785, married in 1810 at
St.
Gabriel to Marie Celeste Alethe HEBERT, died before 23 Nov 1818 (when
his widow
remarried in St. Gabriel).

(9) Edouard LE BLANC, born about 1787, married in 1818 at St. Gabriel to

Marie Adelaide LE BLANC.

Family #2:
Joseph Michel LE BLANC has this record (Baton Rouge, CATHOLIC CHURCH
RECORDS,
vol. 3, p. 541--"Joseph Michel LEBLANC 'upon request' on 2 Jan 1819 had
his
birth and baptismal record at Chapel of St. Joseph, Baltimore, MD
recorded in
the St. Gabriel, Iberville Parish Church register by Father de
SAINTPIERRE. He
was born and baptized 5 Dec 1758, son of Michel & Marie Josephe TRAHAN.
Sponsors: Amant MELANCON & Isabelle LeBLANC (SGA-11, 307)."

He married on 18 Jun 1781 at St. Gabriel to Marie Marguerite LANDRY,
daughter
of Augustin LANDRY (SAW p. 951) & Marie Madeleine BABIN (SAW p. 951). He
was

buried there on 26 Oct 1833, and she was buried there on 21 Jul 1834.
Their
children, all baptized at St. Gabriel, are probably:

(1) Marguerite Appolonie LE BLANC, born 11 Feb 1782, baptized 21 Apr
1782.

(2) Augustin LE BLANC, born 30 May 1783, baptized 31 Aug 1783; buried 15
Feb

1834 there.

(3) Joseph LE BLANC, born 25 Feb 1785, baptized 24 Apr 1785; buried 20
Oct
1817 there.

(4) Marie Rosalie LE BLANC, born 20 Feb 1787, baptized 26 Mar 1787.
Married
there in 1806 to Joseph Auguste LE BLANC. Buried 1 Jan 1816 at St.
Gabriel.

(5) Francois Xavier LE BLANC, born 20 Apr 1789, baptized 19 Jul 1789.

(6) Anne LE BLANC, buried at birth 13 Sep 1790 at St. Gabriel.

(7) Elie LE BLANC, born 4 Apr 1793, baptized 9 Jun 1793. He married 1st
in
1814 to Marie Victoire CHIASSON; 2nd in 1825 to Marie Irene HERNANDEZ.
He was
buried at St. Gabriel on 9 Feb 1849.

(8) Narcisse LE BLANC, born 4 Sep 1795, baptized 25 Oct 1795; married in
1817
to Marie Marcelite BRASSEAU. He was buried at St. Gabriel on 9 Sep 1819.

(9) Isaac LE BLANC, born 13 Dec 1800, baptized 31 Dec 1800. He married
in
1825 to Marie Celeste HERNANDEZ at St. Gabriel.

(10) Helene LE BLANC, born 15 Jun 1803, baptized 12 May 1804; buried 5
Sep
1811 at St Gabriel.

If anyone has any ideas, corrections, additions, or comments, please
post
them.
