Paul,
Re: St-Louis in Acadian: There were several places/forts named St.
Louis. What is the context in which it was used?
Re: St-Jacques de Cabahannocer: the original church in St. James Parish
[then known as Cabahannocer] was known as St. Jacques de Cabahannocer
[several other spellings]. The original church at St. James in St. James
Parish served the area until St. Michael was established at Convent
across the river. As Elton Oubre explained in an earlier response,
Jacques is James in French so St. Jacques and St. James is the same.
Transfer of Louisiana from France to Spain to France to the US - see my
Louisiana History page at: http://www.thecajuns.com/lahist.htm
Note: Colonial Louisiana was divided into 13 states. The Territory of
Orleans [current day Louisiana] was a teritory from 1803 to 1812 when it
became the 18th state.
French and British Acadia: Technically, there wasn't a British Acadia!
The British gained control of NS and the Acadians in 1713. The French
were technically "british subjects" but they were promised a "neutral
status." In 1755, the "neutral status" was ignored and they were
exiled. Lucie has a list on her site http://www.acadian-home.org/ of
the old and new names. She also has excellent pages on the history of
Acadia as does Yvon Cyr http://www.acadian.org/ and Tim Hebert
http://www.acadian-cajun.com/.

Subject: [ACADIAN-CAJUN] Dates of Louisiana change from France to Spain
to USA?
I submitted these questions earlier as part of earlier Query and they
may have been overlooked. I guess I also need l'Assumption to
Donaldsonville
St-Louis in Acadian - Where is this place? (I finally thought I was
getting familiar with Acadian place names?)
St-Jacques de Cabahannocer - Can someone give me guidelines as when name
changed to St James? I would assume ?? 1803 when changed from Spanish
Louisiana to Americian Louisiana.
Does someone have exact date of transfer for this and the France to
Spain Date? (Due to several requests, I will start changing my records
from LA USA to French or Spanish Louisiana depending on the dates.)
I am wondering if we should do same to identify French or British
Acadia? (1713?) The only places I have used NS is after 1755. Is this
correct?
