I found a post-em on one of my ancestors name in my Rootsweb entry where
someone was inquiring about "Le Vieux" which was a dit name for Jean Henry.
It is her surname.
I replied that "Le Vieux" was kind of like a nickname meaning "the old" and
this is her reply.
From may gg grandfather clear down the last name has been Le Vieux /
Levieux. the earliest Le Vieux I have found in the US was a Joseph Le Vieux
in 1837 he married a Mary Potvine in IN or IL. My gg grandfather John Le
Vieux / Levieux was born about 1830 US census says that he and my gg
grandmother Catherine Gerard were born in france but were married 1854 in
IL.
Other family names connected with the Le Vieux / Leviuex family are:
Greemore, Le Gout, and others I can't spell at this time.
The Le Vieux family seem to have settled in St. Francisville IL.
Can anyone help her?
Thanks,
Martha
