Hi Mike:Generally, most names originated somewhere about the year 1000.
Often , they originated in a place name. Frequently, the family moved away afterward and no longer gave any clue as to the place of origin.
My ancestry is 97% acadian, and it is not surprising that I have some DAIGRE ancestry.
There is no doubt that the name was D"AIGRE, but it exists now only among Louisianans.
The word "aigre" does mean "sour" and does not mean "eagle".
A further confusion is created by the fact that , among French-Canadians, there is a large family of DAIGLE, which does go back to DAIGLE (EAGLE). Particularly with people who do not know the history of the name,
the two names are often confused.
Finding a city of AIGRE does not necessarily pin down the place of origin of our OLIVIER DAIGRE.
Hope I've thrown a little light..
