Cultural question

I am working a Dupuis/Dupuy family Eastbank Iberville/Ascension parishes
1840's to 1890's

There is a uniform 4 to 6 months between birth & baptism. The two
possibilities I am aware of are:

1 ) Wait until could return to wife mother's home church. (They did it
for several generations so I question this.)

2) In Central & South America some children are not named or baptised
until they are over a year old. Little Angels if die younger. I wonder
if carryover from Spanish Priest at St Gabrial? (Who said an
Anthropology degee is completely useless.)

Any other ideas & Suggestions????
