Please forgive my ignorance, but I am wondering if the Mikmaq--some of my
ancestry--are part of the Iroquois tribal nation. Does anyone know?

Start at Lucie site with extract of DGFA & Fran's extract of Port-Royal
Register.
http://www.acadian-home.org/frames.html
Stephen White's book will say Micmaq etc. if any written proof exists.
Also see Pere d'Entremont Historie de Cap-Sable.
There is the 1708 "Indian Census" that lists Micmaq in Acadian
settlements & all residents of East Coast. Be careful with this list.
A Petitpas man -m- Micmaq is listed with Indians. His full sister -m-
French is listed with "French" (European).
This ignores all oral tradition of native ancestry. Also watch out for
claims that any female of unknown parentage was Micmaq. We are missing
too many early passenger lists.
Think about joining METISGEN-L <>. It is mostly
about Western Metis but WE also work Maritimes & Quebec.
